Executive Director
Position Announcement & Job Description


The mission of the Cultural Council of Cortland County is to support the arts and culture in Cortland County. This purpose is accomplished by assuring the availability of a variety of cultural experiences, opportunities and services throughout Cortland County. The Cultural Council of Cortland County (Council) is governed by a Board of Directors (Board) and designated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.


Executive Director’s Primary Responsibilities

●    Develop, manage and promote community arts programs with the support from committees and community volunteers.
●    Act as an advocate for arts in the community; identify and foster opportunities to enhance the Council’s visibility, position and credibility within the community including the use of social media, e-newsletters and advertising; increase the membership base.
●    Fundraising including writing and submitting competitive grant applications and managing grants; planning and producing fundraising programs and events in conjunction with the Board. Tasks include developing a long-term funding strategy in conjunction with the Board.
●    To develop, monitor, and oversee the Council budget, as informed by the Board.
●    To maintain a strong relationship with the Board, provide information as needed and prepare monthly reports, and meet monthly with the Board and its committees as needed. The Executive Director serves at the pleasure of the Board and works collaboratively with them. 

●    To maintain and keep current the Council website, Facebook page and other social media.



Desirable Qualifications
●    Degree from an accredited 4-year college/university with a strong preference for candidates with a Degree in Arts Management, Business or Nonprofit management, or an Arts field
●    Minimum of two years’ experience with a non-profit organization
●    Leadership ability and initiative
●    Knowledge of, passion for, and commitment to the arts
●    Budget development, management, fundraising and grant writing experience
●    Ability to form partnerships
●    Organizational and administrative skills
●    Ability to increase community involvement and engage individuals in the arts
●    Ability to develop a volunteer base and to coordinate volunteers in support of programs
●    Ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken word
●    Ability to effectively use word processing, spreadsheet and accounting software as well as photo editing software


 

Additional Information:

This position is currently part time, but it is anticipated it will become full time in the spring of 2021.

The starting salary for part time is $400.00 for 20 hours per week.
